Is my water pressure telling me something?

Low water pressure can be frustrating. Is it telling you something might be wrong? Most likely. Reduced pressure can be caused from a few different issues both inside and outside of your home. Some common causes include corroded or clogged pipes, clogged faucets or showerheads, faulty regulators, leaks and even a community-wide supply problem.

Ready to troubleshoot? Here are a few places to start but most likely you’ll want to call a professional to help alleviate your low water pressure problems.

Common Causes of Low Water Pressure

Pipes

Debris, rush and other deposits can gather in pipes and reduce the space for water to flow. Older homes may have metal pipes that are prone to corrosion which can really constrict water flow.

Valves

Sometimes a faulty valve can hinder water flow by failing to control the right amount of water flow to your fixtures.

Leaks

If you’ve got a leak anywhere along your plumbing system, it could be limiting your water pressure. Look for both visible and hidden leaks to identify the problem.

Pressure Regulator

It may be that your water pressure regulator is faulty or not performing it could be causing large fluctuations in your water pressure. Best to call in a professional like Isley Plumbing to help troubleshoot and fix this problem.

Community Impact

Sometimes, problems with your main water supply, such as leaks or disruptions from a city standpoint, can affect your water pressure. If you believe this to be your problem, contact your Central Indiana local water company for more information and potential fixes.
