October in Central Indiana — Don’t send those pumpkin guts down the drain!

You might say this is a public safety announcement — but at Isley Plumbing we just call it fall in Indiana common sense!

October is the month that plumbers around the country report a huge surge in seasonal clogs caused by heavy comfort-food cooking (yay for steak and gravy!) and yard debris to name just a couple. The biggest offenders include pumpkin guts, baking fats and fibrous fall vegetables. When disposed of improperly, these items act like glue or hardened wax in your pipes.

Here’s a quick list of DON’Ts!

  • Cooking fats and grease
  • Starchy vegetables like potatoes, rice and pasta
  • Pumpkin carving pulp
  • Outdoor leaves and small debris
  • “Flushable” wipes and paper towels
